A new undercover investigation exposes systemic cage cruelty that contradicts Sobeys’ public commitments to animal welfare—showing the cruel reality behind 80 percent of the eggs Sobeys sells to Canadians. Hens were crowded in filthy barns of stacked wire cages, each with barely a sheet of paper worth of space. They could not spread their wings or feel the ground beneath their feet.
Animal advocates are protesting at Sobeys locations across the country and challenging customers to spend 5 minutes in a cramped cage—just a fraction of what hens endure for their entire lives.
