Meet Ian McFall, the newest addition to our Dynasty of Cruelty Top Villain series—exposing the Hudson Family’s role in causing misery to hens at family-owned Burnbrae Farms. As the VP of Caging Hens, Ian McFall plays a central role in the suffering of sensitive birds, who spend their lives crammed into tiny wire cages to produce eggs for Canada’s largest egg supplier.
Ian is the fourth villain card in this series, found in select egg cartons across Canada. Each week during the campaign, a new villain will be revealed. It’s time for Burnbrae Farms to stop harming hens in cages and finally commit to going 100% cage-free!
Burnbrae Farms Is Blocking Cage-Free Progress in Canada
Burnbrae Farms has built its empire on animal suffering, and Ian McFall is a key architect of their misery—unable to spread their wings, and often suffering painful injuries and death.
While other regions like the US, UK, and Europe are phasing out cages, Canada lags behind, with 83% of hens still confined in these cruel systems. Burnbrae Farms is a major player in blocking progress toward a cage-free transition, choosing easy profits over the well-being of animals.
Burnbrae still confines over half of its hens in cages, many of which are so-called “enriched” battery cages. But don’t be fooled by the term, “enriched”—these cages still lead to horrific suffering and harm.
Don’t Be Fooled By Burnbrae Packaging
Burnbrae’s egg cartons are designed to deceive, featuring idyllic imagery and labels like “Nestlaid,” “Naturegg,” and “enriched colony housing.” These carefully crafted terms give consumers the false impression that the eggs come from happy, cage-free hens. However, surveys reveal that Canadians are being misled into purchasing eggs they believe are cage-free, when in reality, the hens who laid them endured lives of misery in cramped wire cages.
It’s time for Burnbrae Farms to stop hiding behind deceptive labels and humanewashed imagery. Canadians deserve transparency about the abuse behind Burnbrae eggs and a firm commitment to ending the use of cages.
Keep an eye out for Ian McFall’s Top Villain card on grocery store shelves—and stay tuned for our next villain reveal. Together, we can hold Burnbrae accountable and fight for a cage-free future.
