In Episode 8 of Paw & Order, hosts Peter Sankoff and Camille Labchuk revisit the Australia live export scandal. After a whistleblower exposed immense suffering and abuse endured by sheep shipped to the Middle East, change may finally be coming to a brutal industry. But what about Canada? Live export happens here at home, too, and it’s bad news for animals. Thousands of horses are shipped by air every year to Japan, where they are slaughtered for meat.

Plus, the hosts fill listeners in on Animal Justice’s latest court case—an intervention in a lawsuit that challenges Ontario’s animal protection laws and the way they’re enforced. If the lawsuit succeeds, it could have drastic implications for millions of animals in Ontario and across the country. They also discuss a groundbreaking new report out of Quebec concluding that rodeos cause illegal animal cruelty, CBC radio host Michael Enright’s stunning pro-animal commentary, new stats that show Canada is slaughtering more animals than ever before, and cruelty allegations against yet another B.C. dog breeder.
