Sobeys Faces Nationwide Protests Over Cruel Cage Conditions

On Saturday (Nov 29), animal advocates will hold demonstrations outside Sobeys and affiliated stores (IGA, Farm Boy, Safeway) in 10 cities across Canada, the largest such protest yet.

Despite growing public concern and previous commitments from its leadership to go cage-free, Sobeys is still supporting cruel cage confinement for hens.

Earlier this year, an Animal Justice investigation revealed the cramped, distressing lives of hens behind 80% of Sobeys’ egg sales, conditions at odds with Sobeys’ premium prices and nearly decade-old animal welfare pledge.

During the demonstrations, protestors will hold signs and use megaphone-led chants to amplify the national campaign to hold the grocery giant accountable to its cage-free promise.
