Introducing the latest in our Dynasty of Cruelty Top Villain series: Ted Hudson, VP of Suffering at Burnbrae Farms. Ted is number two on the roster of collectable villain cards exposing the chilling family behind Canada’s largest egg supplier, Burnbrae Farms. The cards may be found in select egg cartons across Canada, with a new card each week during the campaign until the company commits to going 100 percent cage-free.
The Hudsons have built an empire on the back of animal abuse, and it’s time to hold them accountable for keeping hens trapped in cramped, dirty metal cages, where they suffer from restricted movement, injuries, and death.
Canadians across the country are finding the new Top Villain Card for Ted Hudson in grocery stores. If you’re grocery shopping, keep an eye out!
Enough with Burnbrae’s Deception—Hens Are Abused in Cages
While the US, UK, and Europe are steadily moving away from cages, Canada remains stuck—83% of hens are still confined in cruel cages. Why? Because players like Burnbrae resist progress at every turn.
Burnbrae still keeps over half of their hens in cages, many of which are “enriched” battery cages that still cause horrific harm and suffering.
Burnbrae’s packaging suggests idyllic conditions—images of green pastures and vague, feel-good labels like “Nestlaid”, “Naturegg”, and “enriched colony housing” give consumers the impression that hens roam free. But behind Burnbrae’s barn doors, the reality is vastly different, with hens cramped inside metal cages. Research shows Burnbrae’s misleading cartons lead shoppers to falsely believe these eggs are cage-free.
Burnbrae packaging vs. reality.
Consumers deserve the truth about the suffering behind Burnbrae eggs. Stay tuned for next week’s Top Villain reveal—and demand that Burnbrae finally commits to ending the use of brutal cages for egg-laying hens.
