Ban Caviar in Canada!

Ban Caviar in Canada!

Caviar, a lavish fish egg garnish for the wealthy, is a product of cruelty and needless suffering. Animal Justice’s groundbreaking exposé at Northern Divine Aquafarms in British Columbia shows the dark side of the caviar industry: endangered white sturgeons are brutally tortured and killed for their eggs after suffering for years in barren, overcrowded tanks.

Shocking undercover footage shows these complex, sentient, four to five feet long sturgeons being stabbed repeatedly in the stomach without apparent pain relief to see if their eggs are ready, before killing them with a bolt gun. Whistleblower footage also shows salmons being thrown into ice (considered inhumane even by the industry itself) before being beaten to death with metal clubs. Some appeared to be sliced open while still alive.

One seven-foot sturgeon named Gracie has spent over two decades in a small tank, where she is used over and over to breed sturgeons that will be grown and killed for their eggs.

Sign the petition and ask the Canadian government to #BanCaviar and pass stronger laws to protect fishes from cruelty. Just like foie gras and veal, caviar is unacceptably cruel. Together, let’s create a future where the luxury of a few doesn’t cause the suffering of many.
